Lexis Flexis
I am not a
scholar, etymologist or the like but I am captivated by words. As a song from Jason Mraz goes.. “…I’m all about them words, over numbers,
unencumbered numbered words.” I love
simple short words as well as sesquipedalian lexemes. Regrettably, I sometimes come off as a
pedantic snob. But my logophilia is
based mostly on many a words’ precision to express exactly what one intends. It’s not the length or wordiness of a word
that I find fascinating but rather the nuance or the freshness of a word has
over, say, another similar term.
And like many chefs appreciate the exquisite interactions of different
ingredients, I too believe that certain words when combined, conjugated
together, form unique expressions that delight and satisfy.
Here now is a place that will help build my vocabulary and yours too (feel free
to subscribe to this blog). It is my
intent to write an entry for each work day.
This is where we could train and flex our vocabulary muscles to build better expressions and better ways to describe our world.
Come join me learn or rediscover a word each day.
