provenience

As the king in Alice in Wonderland admonished, we will “begin at the beginning”.  So for this week, I’ll feature words about beginnings.
First up…

provenience

Pronunciation:
pro-VEE-nyens

Meaning:
Source; origin.

This word is synonymous to the word provenance.  Except that provenance has a second meaning of “The history of ownership of a valued object.”  The provenience of both words is from the latin word provenire (to come forth).

Examples:
The provenience of a good deed is a satisfied heart.
The provenience of the universe is what a lot of scientists are still trying to figure out.
